Full day or half day: you can choose

We offer 2 excursion packages for the discovery of Tahiti by the cross-island road:

  • half-day excursion
  • full-day excursion

Regardless of the chosen package, your excursion will take place on board one of our 2 vehicles, which can accommodate up to 8 people. Depending on the number of people in the group for which you are booking your excursion, the per-person rate decreases starting from 4 people.

Half-day Package

Once you have been picked up at your meeting point before the excursion starts, your guide will drive you towards Papenoo along the East coast, to join the north of Tahiti Island before entering the Papenoo valley.

You will then follow the course of the Papenoo river. Get ready to see: numerous waterfalls depending on the current rainfall, the highest peaks of Tahiti, the flora of volcanic islands… You can also swim in the river near which we will stop.

We will make a final stop at the viewpoint over the center of the ancient collapsed crater (caldera). At this location, you will be at the foot of 4 of the 7 highest mountains in Tahiti.

Then it will be time to turn back to exit the Papenoo valley and return quietly by the same route that we took earlier in the morning.

Full day Package

Your day will start as it does for the half-day package (as mentioned above). However, instead of turning back, the day will extend… We will have had a picnic break by the river at lunchtime (lunch not included: see the PRACTICAL INFORMATION section on the homepage for more details) before joining the viewpoint over the caldera.

We will cross the crater in the early afternoon. This is where you will enjoy a magnificent panorama of Tahiti’s highest peak, which seems within reach: marvel at Mount Orohena and its 2,241 meters of altitude! We will continue our ascent to exit the crater through a tunnel. We will then be on the outer slope of the ancient volcano, which will offer you a breathtaking view above Lake Vaihiria, the only natural lake in Tahiti.

We will then begin our descent towards the lake, before heading south of the island to exit the cross-island road. This last part of the excursion will immerse you in the Vaihiria valley on the side of Mataiea. The track is bumpy and vertiginous. Expect to be a bit more shaken than in the morning. But also expect to discover a charming valley, smaller and wetter, with even more flowery and lush vegetation…

The crossing will end at Mataiea, from where we can take the main road back via the West coast of Tahiti.
